The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is a professional organization that provides its members with access to expert advice, support, and resources that are not available elsewhere. By advocating for payments, legislation, and licensing, the FMA helps its more than 25,000 members practice medicine in Florida. Students enrolled in a Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA)-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine can become members by majority vote of the Board of Trustees at any regularly scheduled meeting, even if they do not have a license to practice in Florida. Residents and fellows in Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) training programs in Florida who have graduated from a COCA-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine are also eligible for membership.
The mission of the FMA Political Action Committee is to help pro-medical candidates get elected to the Florida Legislature. Active faculty members must be graduates of osteopathic schools accredited by COCA, paid full-time professors from any school of osteopathic medicine in Florida, and members of their district society, unless there is no active district society in their area. Active membership is open to graduates of osteopathic medical schools accredited by COCA who are licensed to practice osteopathic medicine in Florida and are members of their district society, unless there is no active district society in their area. Associate membership can be granted to anyone except osteopathic physicians who are licensed to practice in this state. The fees for FMA membership include a contribution of twenty-five dollars to the FMA Political Action Committee (FOMA-PAC).
This money is used to help elect friends of osteopathic medicine to state and local positions and promote the interests of the FMA. Joining the Florida Medical Association is an excellent way for medical professionals to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the field and gain access to resources that can help them succeed. The cost of membership varies depending on your status as a student, resident, fellow, faculty member, or associate member. However, all members must make a contribution of twenty-five dollars to the FMA Political Action Committee (FOMA-PAC).
